TPC of Myrtle Beach: Everything You Need to Know

The TPC of Myrtle Beach is located in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, about 15 miles south of Myrtle Beach proper. Designed by Tom Fazio and opened in 1999, it was built as a PGA Tour venue and hosted the Senior Tour's Interclub Classic for several years before transitioning to public play. It remains one of the most polished golf experiences on the Grand Strand.

The Course

TPC of Myrtle Beach plays to a par 72 at approximately 6,950 yards from the back tees. Fazio designed it in the TPC tradition — accommodating to higher handicappers from the forward tees while presenting a legitimate challenge from the tips. The course winds through coastal Carolina terrain with mature trees, water features on several holes, and the carefully managed conditioning that the TPC network is known for.

The back nine is generally considered the stronger half. Several holes play along or across water, with the 15th hole — a par 5 curving around a large lake — the course's signature. The final hole requires a forced carry over water on the approach, which concentrates the mind appropriately for a round's conclusion.

Myrtle Beach as a Golf Destination

Myrtle Beach has more golf courses per capita than almost any other destination in America — over 80 courses within a 30-mile radius. The TPC sits at the upper end of the quality spectrum for the area, making it the logical anchor course for a multi-course trip that might also include Caledonia Golf and Fish Club, True Blue, or Pawleys Plantation.

The Grand Strand golf season runs year-round, with spring and fall offering the best combination of pleasant temperatures and manageable green fees. Summer brings heat, humidity, and peak rates. Winter golf is available and reasonable in price, though the weather can be unpredictable.
